Yoga Foundations Certificate
An introduction to asana practice, taught alongside the anatomy and physiology that underpin it.
What you receive
On completion you will hold the EFWA Yoga Foundations Certificate, issued by EFWA and verifiable by QR code.
The academic foundation
This programme includes the full EFWA theoretical core: locomotor system anatomy, exercise physiology, and systems anatomy and physiology, each with knowledge assessments. These modules are written and delivered by Dr Mert Eray Onen, author of Anatomy of the Locomotor System, who has taught anatomy and kinesiology at university level since 2004.
Most yoga training treats anatomy as a short module. Here it is the foundation everything else rests on — which is what allows you to understand why a posture is appropriate for one body and contraindicated for another.
Practical instruction
Practical demonstrations are delivered by Melisa Arslan, a Master Instructor with the International Pilates Federation who holds master-level certification in both Pilates and Yoga and has been teaching for many years.
What the course covers
Foundation asana practice with modifications. Breathing technique. The anatomical and physiological basis of movement, joint action and muscle function as they apply to yoga practice.
What this course is and is not
This is a foundation programme. The practical component is an introduction to asana practice rather than a full teacher training, and it does not lead to Yoga Alliance registration or RYT status. Its strength is the anatomical and physiological grounding, which applies to any style or school of yoga you go on to study.
Unlimited access
Your access does not end when your certificate is issued. Course materials remain available to you indefinitely, and questions can be raised at any point through the course Q&A.
